One of the largest or rather the largest landfill of all times is located on Staten Island and bears the brunt of the trash from the Big Apple. While dumping stopped in 2001 since the landfill was full , it remained a landfill for so long. At 2200 acres – it is humongous in size, nearly three times the size of central park. Various strategies are being utilised to ensure that this windfall of green open space is not wasted.
Apparently there will be places to play, hike, run and even ski. Something tells me that those who had to live for years in the neighbourhood of a smelly dump are suddenly going to wake up smelling of roses. The real estate prices wont remain down in the dumps for much longer either.
