This could well become the most powerful and largest vacuum cleaner in the world, and that too one which chugs along on tracks, cleaning them! Thanks to the Indian railways, an old unused engine, which would have been shown the doors to the scrapyard, has got a fresh lease of life – its been transformed into a mobile garbage collector. No surprises there, since we all known how dirty most Indian tracks are – this is the best option the authorities could have come up with to rid those tracks of all that litter.
Made in the Parel workshop, by Central Railway engineers, this one took shape when the authorities were toying with the idea of building an effective garbage disposal system on wheels.
The engine has been engineered to function as a massive trash can that will pull in all the garbage as it wheels on.
The cleaner is already on tracks – cleaning specific areas at night, that have been identified as being the dirtiest – between Kurla and Wadala stations, and CST and Masjid station.

Gosh, Bombay desperately needs this. Not only r the local stations filthy, the trains themselves r too. To board a train from v.t. or dadar is a nightmare, u’ve to busy shut your eyes to all d shit that u can see. Yellow, brown & black. Some in d monsoons kick up a stench that engulfs your lungs and makes you faint & vomit all at once…. Then in d midst of all d passenger chaos rushing to board trains there’ll be an errant sweeper who’ll sweep u out into the dust, but the platform will remain filthy forever…. No respite……
